The Gathering Place offers numerous volunteer opportunities:
- Drop-in Meals (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) Prep/Service
- Garden (seasonal April-October)
- Community Kitchens

- Students (Co-ops or Community Service Hours)
Drop-In Meals Program presents our largest need for volunteers. Each day, we require:
- 4 Breakfast Volunteers (From 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.)
- 6 Lunch Volunteers (From 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
- 6 Dinner Volunteers (From 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday
These volunteers assist with food preparation, dining room set-up, meal service and dining room/kitchen cleanup. If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out our Volunteer Application Form
Our Garden program offers seasonal volunteer opportunities for people of all ages. Volunteer tasks include things building garden beds, seeding, planting seedlings, weeding, watering, harvesting, washing produce, spreading mulch. Families are welcome; Children under 16 years of age must be supervised at all times. Sorry – dogs are not allowed in the garden. E-mail us at [email protected], to volunteer in our Community Garden.
Currently, our Community Kitchen program is full. If you would like to be notified when our next Community Kitchen program requires volunteers, please sign up to our mailing list.
Food Rescue volunteers are needed to pick up and deliver food to The Gathering Place on a weekly basis. Volunteers must have a valid license and access to a vehicle. Fuel cards will be provided. If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out the Volunteer Application Form.
Events and Fundraising: Throughout the year, The Gathering Place hosts special events or fundraisers like Soup’s On, The Coldest Night of the Year, volunteer appreciation, and special fundraising dinners. We often need volunteers to help with set-up, registration, meal service, etc. Join our mailing list to receive information about these events.
Board of Directors: Periodically, a position becomes available on our Board of Directors. When vacancies become available, a call for qualified applicants will be posted.
Students
Co-ops/Student Placements
We accept secondary and/or post-secondary co-ops or students placements on a limited basis to ensure students receive a rewarding and educational experience. Please contact us, Community Programs Manager for more information.
Community Service Hours
We welcome students 16 years of age or older to volunteer in any of our programs. Students must fill out the Student Application Form and drop by during office hours for an interview.
